Messages from Phone

19.1. Messages from Phone — No App Needed, Just Your Usual Chat

Because Hermes runs a single gateway process serving Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, and Signal at the same time, you do not need to install any additional app to drive the agent from your phone — just open the chat app you already connected (6.1) and text like you would a friend.

Voice memos work too

The gateway transcribes voice messages on every connected platform — quickly record an idea while on the move, send it in, and the agent converts it to text and processes it like any normal message.

Notes

  • For channels you text from your phone regularly, prefer pairing (6.2) over having to look up user IDs in advance — just send a test message, request the code, and approve it once from the CLI.
  • Voice memos are great for short ideas, but for complex requests with many conditions, typing is still more precise — the agent transcribes your words correctly, but it does not “understand intent” better if the spoken request itself was vague.
